Welcome to the website of the musicians of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
- A Rochester Tradition of Excellence: We are the musicians of Rochester’s resident professional orchestra, performing throughout the community and in the historic Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theater. The RPO is an outgrowth of the orchestra founded by George Eastman in 1922. The RPO provides many opportunities for the citizens of Rochester who, in Eastman’s words, ”love to listen to good music.”
- Teamwork: We are members of the world’s largest union of professional musicians, the American Federation of Musicians, Local 66. This respected and diverse organization represents the needs of both independent and collective performers of every musical genre. Our musicians bargain collectively for compensation under the auspices of the AFM’s symphonic division and the Rochester area local officials.
- World-Class Musicians: The RPO is composed of over 80 trained professionals who have come to Rochester from all over the world, holding degrees from prestigious conservatories and universities.
- Committed to Education: We educate, inform, entertain and infuse our community with music of the highest quality. A third of the RPO’s performances educate our community’s children and their families.
- RPO Musicians In Our Community: We believe in investing in our community’s well-being through partnerships with local charitable organizations. To learn more, explore our current posts by clicking on the following link: “RPO Musicians In Our Community” category.
